QUESTION:
I have a problem with yellowing nails. I do use a base coat but my nails are still yellow. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I can do or use to take the yellowing away? I would love my nails to be just normal, but I always have to wear nail polish to cover the yellow. Help!!!!
Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris! I am a nail technician and you can get a white buff block and buff your nails once a week NOT every day. Also, buff them from your cuticle towards your free edge, NOT from side to side or you will damage your natural nail. Regular manicures every two weeks would also benefit you.
Thanx, Beth

I can't remember where I read this; maybe it was a tip from Donna. Cut a lemon in half and poke nails into the "meaty" part if the lemon. Leave lemon halves on nails for about a half hour. When you remove the lemons, if your nails are not as white as you would like them to be, put a little hydrogen peroxide on a cotton ball and rub it into your nails for 10 minutes. I hope this helps. BTW, Donna I LOVE THIS NEWSLETTER!

For the lady with yellowing nails.....try soaking them in lemon juice for about ten minutes. I heard this should work but I can't guarantee anything. I also heard that the darker the nail polish you wear that the more chances that your nails will turn yellow. Hope the lemon juice thing works

To the lady with yellow nails. Don't wear polish for a while and fill a bowl with bleach and water and soak your nails in it. It's the chemicals in the nail polish that make them stain yellow...especially red nail polish.

To Chris: For yellowing nails I have used Sally Hansen's "NO MORE STAINS". It really works. Use this product UNDER the nail polish, you would normally use. It protects the nail from discoloring and/or staining. I've used Avon's products, as well as bleach and vinegar and other products--to no avail. I also coupled the NO MORE STAINS treatments with eating a packet of Gelatin each day. Gelatin makes nails grow faster and stronger and I noticed the new "whiter" nails growing even quicker than it would otherwise.
Hope this helps! ----Mary

To the lady with yellowing nails. I have that problem too. I found that bleaching my nails helps a little. I just put a little bit of bleach in a bowl with some water (about half water-half bleach) just soak your fingertips for a few minutes. It does help for me its not permanent but it does work. Do it maybe twice a week and leave the nail polish off so your nails can breathe. I hope it works for you...

I would NOT soak my nails in bleach due to the fact that bleach will strip your natural nails of all their natural oils and you will end up with brittle nails and definitely use a base coat before applying polish.

To Chris regarding yellowing of nails, I have had this problem before also. I found a cheep and easy way to remove the stains. I just make a paste with Baking Soda and Water and use a wash rag to rub it onto my nails about 30 seconds per nail. It will strip all the yellow out. I have actually been asked if I had a French manicure afterwards. This paste also works for removing green tint from blond swimmers hair. As a side note it also takes green out of grass (OOPS! did my hair in the yard.)
Hope this helps. Deborah in Arkansas...
